About the Role

Membership & Operations Manager

City of London | £50,000–£60,000 per annum DOE
Permanent | Full-time | Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
Predominantly office-based

Our client is a prestigious, historic City institution with a fascinating heritage, a thriving membership community and a strong commitment to charitable activities.

Based in beautiful headquarters near the River Thames, the organisation hosts an extensive programme of member events and provides an elegant setting for private and commercial functions.

We are recruiting a Membership & Operations Manager to take responsibility for three key areas: membership administration, communications and events.

This is a varied, hands-on role within a small, established team, requiring exceptional organisational skills, strong digital confidence and the ability to build positive relationships with people from all walks of life.

We're particularly interested in someone who enjoys working within a traditional, professional and sometimes formal environment, understands the importance of etiquette and discretion, and takes genuine pride in delivering an excellent service.

Key Responsibilities
Membership & Administration
  • Oversee day-to-day membership administration, enquiries, applications and annual renewals.
  • Maintain accurate membership records and manage the membership database and online systems.
  • Act as a key point of contact for members, prospective members and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate committee and board-related administration, including agendas, papers, meeting arrangements and minutes.
  • Support membership processes, reporting, scheduling and associated financial administration.
Communications
  • Manage regular member communications, including the monthly newsletter and announcements.
  • Maintain and update website content, online information and digital communications.
  • Coordinate the production of the organisation's Annual Review.
  • Support online member services, including e-shop and related digital administration where required.
  • Ensure communications are accurate, engaging, timely and professionally presented.
Events
  • Coordinate a varied programme of member events, meetings and formal occasions.
  • Manage invitations, bookings, registrations, payments and guest communications.
  • Prepare seating plans, schedules, event information and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise with members, speakers, suppliers and internal colleagues.
  • Support event budgets, financial tracking and administration.
  • Attend occasional evening events as required.
About You
We're looking for a polished, personable and exceptionally organised individual who enjoys responsibility, variety and working closely with people.
You'll ideally bring:
  • Strong experience in membership management, administration, communications, events or a similarly varied role.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, schedules and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional correspondence and newsletter production.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders, committees and members.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using CRM systems, databases, digital communication platforms and website management tools.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace would be particularly advantageous.
  • Experience managing budgets, payments, reporting and accurate records.
  • A professional, well-presented manner, with excellent interpersonal skills, etiquette and discretion.
  • The confidence to work independently while contributing positively to a small team.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and genuine interest in supporting a membership organisation with charitable objectives.
Previous experience within a membership body, professional association, charity, livery company, heritage institution or similarly traditional organisation would be advantageous, although not essential.

Salary & Benefits
  • £50,000–£60,000 per annum, dependent on experience
  • 35-hour working week, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
  • Generous contributory pension, including 10% employer contribution plus additional matching of up to 5%
  • Up to 30 days' annual leave
  • Christmas closure
  • Private medical and dental cover
  • Life insurance
  • Potential for some hybrid working once established in the role, subject to agreement
  • Opportunity to work in a beautiful, historic City setting
Why Apply?
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys being at the heart of an organisation, bringing together people, communications, events and administration.

You'll become a trusted member of a close-knit team, helping maintain the traditions of an established City institution while supporting its continued development and charitable work.
